Minister Urges Public to Trust Government’s Strong Stand on Cambodia–Thailand Border Dispute
Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra has called on Cambodians to place their trust in Prime Minister Hun Manet’s bold and decisive action in defending the country’s sovereignty, as the government moves to take four key border disputes with Thailand to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The four contested sites include Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Toch Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, and the Mom Bei area — all sensitive locations along the Cambodia–Thailand border. The decision to bring these cases to the ICJ reflects what Minister Neth described as a legal, diplomatic, and defensive strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, just, and lasting resolution.
“The people should have confidence that the Royal Government, under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership, is acting with urgency and responsibility,” the minister said.
“This is not just about territory. It’s about national dignity.”
According to Minister Neth, the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the 7th Royal Government have taken a firm stand following the May 28th incident, when Thai soldiers reportedly crossed into Cambodian territory and opened fire, killing a Cambodian soldier. In response, the Cambodian side has swiftly mobilized diplomatic efforts, legal action, and military readiness to protect its borders.
“Not even one millimeter of our land will be given up,” the minister said.
“That is the clear message from the Prime Minister and the ruling CPP.”
He emphasized that Cambodia is not looking for conflict but will not tolerate repeated provocations.
“We want peace. We want friendship,” he continued.
“But when peace is threatened, we must be prepared to defend it. If someone still dreams of taking our land, they need to know we are ready to stand our ground.”
This isn’t the first time Cambodia has taken border matters to the ICJ. The Kingdom previously won cases at the international court in 1962 and again in 2013, both relating to the Preah Vihear Temple and surrounding territory.
The current legal process will be led by a special litigation committee established by the Royal Government under the leadership of His Majesty the King, ensuring that Cambodia’s case is thoroughly and professionally represented on the world stage.
“We’ve succeeded before, and we believe in justice. This is not just about the law — it’s about protecting our future,” Minister Neth said.
